Aloha from Meghan, who joined our Hawaii office in 2018, bringing with her a unique blend of creativity and practical know-how. In 2000, after graduating in the top 10% of her Kailua High School class, Meghan left Hawaii and headed to Norton, Massachusetts to pursue her Bachelor of Arts degree. In 2004, Meghan graduated with honors from Wheaton College, double majoring in Music and Theatre and Dramatic Literature. Having had her fill of cold weather, Meghan then moved to sunny Los Angeles, California. By day she was an Information and Technology Technician at a large law firm, and by night she was a lounge singer at a nearby hotel restaurant and bar.
Spending most of her time with attorneys increasingly intrigued her about the legal profession and eventually led to her decision to become an attorney herself. Meghan soon gained attendance at the University of Seattle School Of Law, where her course work focused on individual and business taxation and estate planning. While in attendance, she received the CALI award for her excellence in course work, and in 2010, she graduated again with honors. Next, she joined a general practice law firm in Seattle where she litigated numerous cases in areas of family law, contract disputes, personal injury, employment law, landlord tenant disputes, and so on. Her background in theater made her an excellent litigator, which propelled her to partner status within five years.
Meghan thoroughly enjoyed her time in Seattle, but as her family began to grow, she became homesick for the Islands. In 2018, Meghan, her husband, their three children, dog, and cat relocated from the Mainland back to Kailua, Hawaii. Wanting to resume the practice of law in the area of her first love, taxation and estate planning, Meghan soon connected with our team. She now focuses on protecting her clients from the IRS, whether through proactive tax strategies or, when necessary, litigation. After years of experience as an attorney, Meghan understands the importance of clear communications and the need to resolve complications in an efficient, but reassuring manner. Meghan’s clients have this to say:
“She is a great lawyer and comes off as a friend. Her representation of my cases was immaculate and professional.”
This is how she strives to handle all her cases, with the knowledge of a professional but the support of a friend. Her approach to resolution is two-fold: determine the outcome that’s in the best interest of the client, then work with the client to achieve that outcome, all while respecting the law and protecting the client’s financial wellbeing.
Along with her family, Meghan relishes participating in outdoor activities, such as soccer and sunbathing on Hawaii’s beautiful beaches. She also particularly enjoys rodeos. To talk to Meghan about your tax issues, call 808-366-1188. She looks forward to assisting you.
